Nick Cassidy


Nick joined DRN after being a partner and then director at a local firm. With a wide client base, Nick has accepted instructions throughout the country with a particular interest in preparing and defending large-scale drug conspiracies and frauds. Nick is able to represent clients under Legal Aid Agency funding or on a private fee paying basis. Nick is a regular visitor to the police station and is experienced in assisting clients during police interview. A confident advocate in the Magistrates’ Court, Nick regularly prepares and conducts bail applications, sentence hearings and trials. A qualified duty solicitor, Nick has experience of dealing with a wide variety of cases including:
  • Offences against the person
  • Dishonesty offences including complex frauds
  • Drug Offences
  • Money laundering
  • Private prosecutions including RSPCA and Trading Standards
  • Serious sexual offences
  • Murder and manslaughter
Nick is experienced in preparing serious cases before the Crown Court and regularly instructs a large network of experienced Counsel able to assist in relation to cases such as appeals against conviction/sentence, trials before the Crown Court and hearings brought in relation to the Proceeds of Crime Act. Some of the most notable cases Nick has been involved in include:
  • R v A – murder case involving joint enterprise
  • R v A – large scale nationwide drug conspiracy and money laundering involving sixteen defendants
  • R v B – large scale drug conspiracy requiring complex legal arguments on hearsay and a successful application to dismiss
  • R v B – kidnap and allegations of contempt of court
  • R v P – international people trafficking and arranged marriage scam
  • R v N – child neglect and manslaughter case, including complex arguments on gross negligence manslaughter
  • R v R – defendant’s involved in the Burnley Riots
  • R v S – DWP fraud over a number of years
  • R v R –historical rape allegation and a successful argument in relation to abuse of process
  • R v S – large scale football disorder involving legal arguments on joint enterprise and a successful application to dismiss
  • R v S – alleged boiler room fraud involving a nationwide investigation by Trading Standards
  • R v Z – drug importation case including complex telephone cell site analysis
After completing the level 4 Regulated Financial Planning Diploma, Nick qualified as a financial adviser in 2020. A keen follower of sport and a retired rugby player with national league experience, Nick will also assist in our Sports Law Department. Nick can represent clients in disciplinary hearings and contract negotiations.
