Welcome changes to the domestic abuse laws. It is now a criminal offence to use coercive and/or controlling behaviour, therefore making emotional domestic abuse an offence.

The new offence, is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison and/or a fine, meaning it is now illegal for a partner, former partner, former partners still living together or a family member, to ‘repeatedly or continuously engage in behaviour towards another person that is controlling or coercive that knowingly has a serious effect on them’.
