Becoming sick or injured while abroad can ruin a trip – especially if it wasn’t your fault or could’ve been avoided.

While your first concern should always be getting over the distress and potentially serious health problems, you may also be entitled to compensation.

Many of the most common causes of holiday illness or injury can be avoided if health and safety best practices are followed.

If you feel you’ve been let down by a tour operator, hotel, food and drink establishment or other leisure providers, we may be able to help you claim.

By proving that a provider has failed to take the required steps to ensure your wellbeing, or failed in their duty of care, we can pursue the justice you deserve.

  • Food poisoning (including E. coli and salmonella)

  • Legionnaires disease
  • MRSA

But there are many more, so seek legal advice from an experienced professional if you’re unsure of where you stand.

ever, if you’ve become ill with any other condition as a result of the negligence of another party while abroad, you may be able to claim holiday sickness compensation, so it’s best to seek legal advice.

Could you have a holiday illness claim?

Litigation specialist David Lawson, explains the reasons behind holiday illness claims:

‘A lot of people that get injured or ill on holiday probably don’t pursue claims because they may not be aware they’re entitled to do so.

‘They might think it’s an accepted risk when you travel abroad – but in a lot of cases this simply isn’t the case and tour operators may be at fault legally.

‘For example, food poisoning issues could be caused by poor storage of produce, in terms of temperature or cross contamination, or by poor cleaning.

‘Even something as seemingly innocuous as water drunk during a planned excursion can be an avoidable cause of health problems.’
