Nick Cassidy of DRN Solicitors and Mark Stuart of Lincoln House Chambers have secured an acquittal for their client in a multi-handed conspiracy at Liverpool Crown Court.
The case, investigated by HMRC and prosecuted by the Specialist Fraud Division, related to an allegation that consignments of raw unmanufactured tobacco were imported into the UK with the intention that duty, in excess of £4 million, be evaded.
The original investigation started in 2014. It was believed that the client was part of an alleged conspiracy that facilitated the importation of tobacco, processing and packaging of the tobacco and then the onward sale and distribution of counterfeit tobacco products. The client denied the offence and was acquitted after trial.
